About

We built this because we couldn't find it.

We spent a year tracking what riders were searching for, then verified every answer with the makers who actually build this gear. This is where it all lives now.

Lauren — Founder

Bridle & Burlap started after one too many expensive mistakes — bridles that looked beautiful then two years in began to peel, jackets every forum recommended that didn't survive a real winter. I wanted a site that would give a straight answer about what's actually worth spending money on.

This started as your idea, not ours. We spent the last year listening — to the tack questions, the horse care unknowns, the things riders were still hunting real answers to across every social media platform and group chat. We took the time to build it right instead of fast. Thank you for shaping every corner of it.

Together, we research every product against high quality standards, write guides to the questions riders ask most, and share what we've learned firsthand. We've spent more than thirty years in the horse world — competing, raising, breaking, learning from, and caring for horses — and we bring all of that to what we write. Collectively, we were tired of not being able to find a straightforward guide that covered everything, so we decided to make our own.

We turn down sponsored placements. No brand pays to be featured here, and no advertiser sees a draft before it's live. Every brand here was chosen because we'd spend our own money on it.

Everything we produce is backed by credible sources, deep research, and quality control — our personal opinions (and we have plenty) stay out of the pieces, aside from the notes on personal experience we've had with the products. As a family, we want everyone to know the ups and the downs. We're so happy to include you in it.

What We Believe

How we approach everything on this site

Start with the answer

Name the brand, name the price, say whether it's worth it. Preamble is just friction. The recommendation comes first.

Buy well, buy once

Full-grain over bonded. Brass hardware over nickel plate. The thing you'll still love in five years. Investment pieces earn their place — we explain exactly why.

Tell you when it's not right

If a product isn't right for a certain horse or rider, we say so. Anyone can curate a list of expensive things. Harder — and more useful — is telling you when to skip it.

Honest about how we earn

We earn a commission when you buy through our links — full disclosure below. It changes nothing about what we recommend. We're paid the same either way, so we point you to the best option, not the best-paying one.

Affiliate Disclosure

A note on how this site works

Bridle & Burlap runs on affiliate commissions. When you buy through a link here — through Amazon Associates, AWIN, or a handful of smaller retail partners — we earn a small percentage. You pay the same price either way.

That's the only way this works: commission rates don't decide what makes the site. We chose every product here first, and checked what it paid second. If something isn't right for your horse, your budget, or your closet, we say so — even when it's one of the better-paying links.

Retailers change prices without telling us. We update them when we catch it, but check the product page before you buy — what you see there is what you'll actually pay.

Free Field Guide

Olympic Warm-Up

Loosen, Bend, Ride — Ten flatwork warm-ups from the arenas of Olympic and FEI riders. One page each — print it, clip it to the tack-room wall, ride it.

No spam. You'll get the guide — and emails only when we have something worth saying.
